Reply to Thomas Caparella's Problem
by Carl Tenning,
President, Tacoma Open Group for Microcomputers

Hi Thomas,
Thanks for the permission to place your experience in our "TOGGLE" newsletter.

I am President of the Tacoma Open Group For Microcomputers, of which David Rowe (who you first contacted) is also a member (and past president as well). I really appreciate the input of your experience. It's the sort of thing we like to discuss at our meetings.

You didn't mention what application you first used to access your Hotmail account, but I presume you mean Microsoft Outlook Express. I have taken the liberty to do some minor editing, so please check the edited version for me (see above).

Anyway, I tried to reproduce the problem. I too got the Security Certificate error. Then, searching the web, I learned that as of June 2008, Microsoft changed the way Hotmail accounts are accessed. I hadn't been using Outlook Express, so I hadn't encountered the problem before. I did find, however, that by changing the Outlook Express settings, I can now access my Hotmail account using Outlook Express. Here are the setting that worked for me:

   Very truly yours,

   Carl Tenning
