Beginners
   In Clean Up Your Room/Desktop, Part II Ron Hirsch continues his discussion of managing you computer's icons. Part I was published in last month's newsletter.

   In Multi-taskers Distracted Study Says an article from the daily newspaper talks about our ability to multi-task and how it affects accuracy and speed. Tests were done with two groups: Those who regularly multi-task and those who normally handle only one or two things at a time. Which category do you fit into? See what they say about you.

   In Problems Switching ISP's Thomas Caparella, who is a friend of a TOG member, describes problems he had with his e-mail system after he switched from one ISP to another. He describes the problems as best he can.

   In Reply to ISP Problem Carl Tenning analyzes Mr. Caparella's problem and responds with a proposed solution. In his article he includes some computer screen shots to illustrate his response.

Operating System
   In A Slightly Different Kind of Shortcut the author, Vinnie LaBash describes the procedure provided in Windows concerning how to set up program shortcut icons on your desktop. Usually these are set up for us when we install a program. Here he describes how to do it if one has not been provided.


Hardware
   Third Generation USB is a very short article on page 4 describingthe most recent configuration of the USB port, namely USB 3.0. It will be available in 2010.

   In A Tale of Two Printers, a Scanner, and a CD Drive the author thinks the directory entries for these devices somehow became corrupted and they would no longer work as expected. When the standard repair techniques wouldn't work he used software called Revo Uninstaller. This solved the problem with all devices. He then discusses the problem and solution ion some detail.

General Interest
   In There is More to Music Than the iPod the author describes his efforts in cataloging hundreds of old LP records that were left by a friend who died. Many if not most of these old recordings will be lost unless saved by lovers of the music of earlier eras.

   In Online Backup Services: There Are Pros & Cons But They Are Up & Coming the author discusses the current option offered by some services to backup your files at a remote Internet site. He present arguments or points of view to be considered before you take the leap to store your data in this way.
