Show and Tell Replaces Usual Program Presentation at TOG Meetings
TOG is temporarily without a Vice President/
Program Chairman. One duty of this officer's position is to organize the
program presentation at the monthly meetings. Until this position can
be filled, we are changing the meeting format to replace the "Program
Presentation" with a "Show and Tell" presentation. Please support this
by bringing to the meeting something you can "Show and Tell." It doesn't
need to be fancy. Even five minutes would be welcome. The "Show and
Tell" may be a s simple as getting up and speeaking or may include any
object you want to show. Since we have a digital projector, the "Show
and Tell" may also include material for projection. Just put it on
either a CD-ROM or USB thumb drive and we'll put it in the computer for
presentation. We usually also have a broadband internet connection to
show web pages. Material on CD-ROM or USB drive can be as simple as text
files. The host computer also supports Microsoft Office 2007 file
formats such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

UPDATE
Communications
Ed Richards tells us about a new communication tool called Dropbox which allows communication between computers.
In Alternative Internet Browsers - Maybe Better Than IE
Ira Whilsker makes us aware of other alternatives to Internet Explorer.
Some of you already use some of these. Take a look and see if there are
others you might like to try.
In Magic Jack - To Buy or Not Vinny
LaBash discusses the pros and cons of using this device which you use
instead of your phone service. He suggests that you consider what
guarantees you have if they go out of business. Read carefully.
General Interest
In File Management - Part One Ron Hirsch
leads us through a discussion of what file and folder names mean and how
to use them effectively. Leaving that chore to the machine may not be
the best option.
In Things, Thinglets, And Thingassos
author S. Jack Lewtschukof MBUG talks about a wide range of subjects
from cleaning, your computer, how to reduce long web addresses to
manageable size, Credit cards and Debit cards and third generation USB
ports.
Hardware
In 10 Things You Should Look For in a Notebook
the author gives a detailed list of things that he thinks are important
in that next computer that you will probably buy. If you're in the
market check this list over and maybe take it with you to the computer
store.
But wait... in Setting Up a New Computer Brian Lewis gives us his slant on what he thinks is important by describing his experience in replacing an aging laptop.
