Phone Number Correction
We have just been made aware of an error in our November 2006 newsletter. In the article entitled Attorney's Theft Protection List several phone numbers were listed for agencies to contact if your wallet or its contents are stolen. The phone number for Equifax was incorrect. The article has been corrected. The correct phone number for Equifax is 1-800-525-6285
Beginners
In What Types of Files Do You Have? the author discusses graphic file formats which you might select when publishing an article including graphics. They include bitmap, vector and metafile formats. He gives some cautions as well as do's and don'ts.
In Let's Clean "Startup" the author shows you how to list the files that load on Startup and how you can "unclick" those that you think may be slowing down your startup procedures.
Communications
In E-Mail Responsibilities the author reminds us that e-mail correspondence is NOT private and should be treated that way. Don'r send anything in e-mail that you don't want displayed publicly. Read some of his reasoning.
In the article entitled Firewalls a writer asks if Windows firewall is enough or should she also add something like ZoneAlarm? The author responds with sound advice. Read it and learn.
Operating System
In 64 Bit Computing--Pros and Cons Brian Lewis goes into some detail on the perennial question on upgrading to be compatible with the very latest thing. If you use a lot of applications that still use the older system you may be better advised to wait a couple of years until they have been upgraded or adapted to the 64 bit system. Read the article and see where you fit in.

In All Computers Wait At The Same Speed the author, Vinnie LaBash discusses the increased memory requirements with Vista and how the requirements of various components in the system continue to require more, more, more. He suggests adding more memory to make your Vista system better able to handle the rquirements. Read. Learn.
Hardware
In the article So You Have a New Digital Camera the author suggests that you play with it to learn the various features that it has. Do this at home shooting inconsequential things until you become intimately familiar with its features. By doing this you wont have to go through the learning curve while taking pictures of things you really want. He has several other worthwhile comments. Take a look!

Here we carry a two part article Introduction to Spreadsheets & Ways To Use Them You Probably Didn't Know About by author Ron Hirsch of the Boca Raton Computer Society.
In Part 1 the author describes several useful features of spreadsheets to familarize you with them.
In Part 2 he discusses making an Address/Telephone Directory, Assets Schedules, special printing capabilities, Layout Diagrams and using automated instructions called Macros
Presentation
In Slimming Down PowerPoint the author points out that PowerPoint presentation file size grows rapidly and if you intend to e-mail them to anyone you need to reduce their size--a time consuming task. He has discovered a product which does this more easily and tells you about it.
