No More Ports?
by Charlie Semple, LACS, Sept 2006

Many new computers today do not have a floppy drive. We've known that for some time.

However, do you know that many now do not include a serial port or a parallel port?

USB is taking over the world! (or at least the computer world.) This presents a problem if you have an older computer that does not have a USB port and your printer has only a USB port.

If your older computer is running Windows 98SE, you can buy an in expensive PCI card (easy to put into your computer) with 2 or 4 USB ports. Now you can connect your USB printer to your older machine.

If you have an older parallel printer and a new computer without a parallel port, you can use the adapter cable or device that connects a parallel device to a USB port.
