UPDATE
Local authors
Getting articles to print in the newsletter every month isn't quite as easy as it looks. Getting articles written by our own members is even less so. Thankfully there are a couple who come up with something from time to time. This month we are blessed with two articles by TOG members, namely Tom Stepanek's "One Great Shareware Utility: CCleaner" and Carl Tenning's "MSN E-mail Settings", in the Beginner's and Communications sections, respectively.

Rootkit Finder?
Just before Christmas 2005 your editor's computer was infected with something that Symantec's antivirus program and his BlackIce firewall couldn't detect and/or handle. The Windows Explorer e-mail was rendered useless and other symptoms appeared as well. After much fooling around he purchased a PC Tools program that got him back in business. Apropos of the Rootkit article in the Communications section, PC Tools recently offered an upgrade to this program to detect and eliminate any Rootkits found. Perhaps some of the other malware detection programs will follow suit. Some tools are available. See the Rootkit Info article in the Communications section.

Lost Files
How often have you looked for a file that you know is on your hard drive somewhere, but due
to mislabeling, a bad memory or the work of a poltergeist, you can't seem to find it. Take a look at the article Tips For Locating a Lost File in the Operating System section. It will probably help - at least it couldn't hurt!

Idle Time
Ever wonder what your computer does when you are not typing away at the keyboard? It's a heck of a lot faster than you are so it spends most of its time waiting and while it waits... what does it do? Read the article under Operating System Notes & Tips and find out.

Take Care of Your CDs
Are you careless about how you handle your CD's? Author Lynn Kauer admonishes us that certain types of careless mishandling can lead to corrupted or lost data. If this is important to you, you'd better read the article in the Hardware section.

Keeping Track of Photos
Most of us have large collections of printed photographs. With the advent of digital cameras a new era of multitudes of digital photos is upon us. In a vein similar to the Lost Files article the author addresses the question of keeping track of things photographic, digital that is.
