Root Kit Alert At the July 2005 meeting, President Ray Mills said we should become aware of the current wave of malware that is going undetected by firewall and virus detection software. Linux users have long been aware of "Root kit" software that allowed a hacker to gain undetected access to Linux computer systems at the "root" or system administrator level. Kits of this type of "stealth" software tools have been developed by hackers for use in |
undetected attacks on other operating systems including Windows. You need to be aware of this threat. Our third article discusses this problem.

Office 2003 Drawing at August Meeting The drawing for the donated Microsoft Office 2003 software package will be performed at this month's (August) meeting. Both Ray Mills and Sandee Gimblett have tickets for sale and will make them available at the meeting for last minute buyers. The money collected will go toward purchase of a new projector for use at monthly meetings. |
