Firefox Fixes
Rick Short, February 2005 AXESS Perth PCUG
When the Firefox browser was upgraded to v 1.0 last October there were a million downloads in the first 100 hours of its release. So it's self-evident that there must be a growing number of Firefox users within the club. It opens pages faster than IE, accepts RSS news feeds, has a built-in pop-up stopper and blocks ActiveX controls.

Like most of us I'm still using a 56K dialup connection and thus I use Download Accelerator Plus (DAP) to reduce my download times by approximately 30%. When installing DAP it can be integrated with both IE and Netscape. There is still no option to integrate it with Firefox. To do this copy the file 'dapop.dll' from the 'DAP' folder (C:\Program Files\DAP) into the Plug-Ins folder of Mozilla (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\Plug-Ins) and re-name the copied file from 'dapop.dll' to 'npdap.dll '. After restarting Windows, DAP will be integrated into the Firefox browser
You can also use the 'Download Basket' of DAP in order to drag links from the Mozilla browser into it so that DAP will be used to make downloads. The 'Download Basket' is located under the 'View' menu of DAP.

Certain sites, such as Windows Update can only be viewed with Internet Explorer. Install the IE View extension from http://ieview.mozdev.org. Use Firefox for your normal browsing and right-click and select 'View in Internet Explorer' when you have to access an IE only site.
