Cleaning Up the Startup File List
by Bob Schaefer, Tacoma Open Group for Microcomputers
Several articles have been written about too many unnecessary programs being loaded when Windows starts, but they assume I am smarter than I am and I should know what each one of the programs are for.

I have tried the following method to clean up the start-up files and so far have not had any bad results and my computer seems to be more stable.
I examined the startup files with a program named Startup Cop. www.windows-startup-cop.com/download.html. This program can also be used to remove or disable any programs in the list. Highlight the program in question then click on the details button. This allows you to read the actual file name. Msconfig will also list the program names.

I then searched for the program, in a web page I found on the Internet named "Task List Programs" www.answersthatwork.com/ Tasklist_pages/ tasklist.htm, which gave me details on what the program does and a recommendation whether it is safe to disable or remove it.
