UPDATE
Serial Standards, NOT!
In the Hardware Notes & Tips section, Carl Tenning describes his recent experience, re-installing a mouse after changing out a motherboard, which shows that even well-known and "universal" standards are not always met by all hardware manufacturers. Capricious assignment of pins and/or connectors can can cause seemingly unsolvable problems--even to those of use who have been "around the Horn" a few times. But persistence pays off as Carl tells how he solved his dilemma. To read about it click here

Simple E-Mail Antivirus Tip
Take a look, here, at an easy virus-defeating entry you can make in your Address Book. It makes use of the
commonly-used ASCII sort to stop short any attempt at virus distribution by e-mail attachment.

A visitor (didn't catch the name) at the September meeting said this doesn't work and that it was discussed in a Fred Langa "Langa List" column. We searched back several months but could not find that Langa column. However, it was implied that the Address Book was not in ASCII sort sequence. Our check of the actual Address Book file showed that they were indeed in ASCII sequence.

Our advice? Go ahead and do it anyway. The entry will take up minimal space and, like chicken soup: "It couldn't hurt!"
