The Subject Was Firewalls
February Meeting Subject a Hit!
Those of you who didn't attend the February meeting missed a presentation on Firewalls by Bob Thomson. The subject was particularly timely because, in the week just prior to the meeting, attacks were made on Yahoo, Ebay, Amazon.com, etc., which brought them down for a while with "Denial of Service" assaults.

The presentation was being prepared for another time and venue, so it wasn't announced as the program for February, but since it was so nearly ready and was a timely subject we decided to go ahead. We are sure that those who attended learned something, and more
than one went home and immediately tested their system for vulnerability. You can too. Go to Steve Gibson's website at http://grc.com and check his Shields Up section.

If you missed it, Bob reviewed reasons and techniques for installing firewall software and hardware as protection from hacker attacks. The slide show is on http://www.toggle.org at Tips 'n' Tricks/ Bob's Corner/Firewalls. The slide show is also displayed at http://www.linuxenvy.com. Go to Linux Classes click on here and maneuver to Firewalls.
