Update for HP Scanner
Was Just a Website Away
by Patrick Marshall, Seattle Times,9/24/00
    Q. I have a Hewlett Packard ScanJet 5100C Scanner. We recently upgraded to Windows 98. The HP scanning software states that this scanner is not compatible with Windows 98. Does this mean that I need to buy a new scanner or is there updated software I can buy that will be compatible?

    A. HP has now provided updated drivers and software for that scanner that make it compatible not only with Windows 98 but also with the newer Windows 2000. You'll find the drivers and software available for download at www.hp.com/ cposupport/ swindexes/c5197aswen.html1
As a general rule of thumb, if you have a device that isn't supported by your new operating system, just check periodically on the manufacturer's Web site for new postings.

TOGGLE Ed Note:
    That's Worth Repeating

A visit to any manufacturer's website is usually worth the trouble. Most vendors and manufacturers have learned that it is good Public Relations to offer free updates to their product support software.

1 No longer a "live" link, but www.hp.com/ cposupport/ will get you there.
