Defragging Your Windows 9x Swap File
from Tom Stepanek, Tacoma Open Group for Microcomputers
Remember when we dumped Norton Utilities and my computer never ran better? Well, the biggest thing we thought we lost was Norton's defrag, which allowed us to defrag the swap file and, if we wanted, put it at the front end of the HD.

Well, Win98 apparently does better than Win 95 MS defrag, but since we still use Win95, we are out of luck. Or are we?

I am on the emailing list from winmag and get a WinTip of the Day, every day of the week. Many are informative, and some I already know, but they are nice to get reinforcing one's knowledge.
I got a tip of the day today about being able to defrag your swap file, and it is so simple, I don't know why I did not think of it before.

In brief,
    1. Close all programs,
    2. Go to the virtual memory window,
    3. Click on "Let me specify my own virtual memory settings", then
    4. Select "Disable Virtual Memory", then
    5. Do a defrag,
and follow the above procedure except this time select "Let Windows manage my virtual memory settings."

Kewl, I got to try it tonight. I have the whole tip of the day printout, if you want it.
